The reasons for you to consider applying for a different card

Even though the card offers some outstanding benefits, it can’t be perfect for everyone. Before you make your final decision, we encourage you to consider the drawbacks of the card as well as a number of other options that may be better for you.

  • The card isn’t accepted widely. Since this card isn’t Visa or MasterCard, some problems may occur if you try using it outside of the US. There is no fee for the purchases made with the card abroad. It’s great. Still, you’d better have an additional card with you while travelling just in order to be on the safe side.
  • The card implies a low value in case you choose to redeem your points as a statement credit. The card gives you an opportunity to redeem the points earned as a statement credit. However, there is something you need to know about the option. In case you choose to get your points redeemed as a statement credit, the value of each of the points will amount to only 0,6 cents. This is certainly not much. If you prefer redeeming your rewards as a statement credit, you may be interested in learning more about the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. Well, you’ll easily make up for it in case you spend at least 41,600 buying things at the US supermarkets in a year.

  • The card doesn’t grant you lounge membership. Of course, there is $100 airline credit that you can spend on buying everyday lounge passes. However, the sum will be only enough to pay 2 passes not more. If you’re the one preferring to enjoy the perk of being able to visit airport lounges every time you have to fly somewhere, you’d better pay attention to the Platinum Card® from American Express.

This is probably the best card you can find for travelling around the USA. We’ll you need to at least travel 2-4 times per year. Otherwise, the card isn’t that much advantageous. There is a fee of $195 that you have to pay each year for using it. However, that’s not a big problem. I use the airline credit provided by the card thus decreasing the annual fee to $95. I really like some of the benefits that come with the card. For example, 2x points for the purchases made with the card at Macy’s and Best Buy. You also get a doubled number of points if you choose to book your hotels via the AMEX travel. Besides, you get 3x points for Whole Foods up to the end of 2017. However, if you travel more frequently, I’d say that there are better cards for you to pay attention to (like AMEX Platinum).
