For example, there is the Citi Price Rewind features that ensures you get the best deal possible when buying anything. Once you register your purchase, the card will search for places where the same item is available for a lower price. If it finds such a place, you’ll get a refund. You’ll also get the Citi Private Pass that’ll let you book tickets to special events on presale. The list of the events that you can buy tickets for is rather long.
  • The card is ideal for using abroad since there are no fees implied. The bank made a decision to drop the fees back in the 2015 thus making the card even more attractive to potential cardholders.

The drawbacks of the card and other options that you may be interested in

Even though the card is very advantageous, especially from the point of view of those who prefer travelling with the American Airlines, it also has some disadvantages to remember about.

  • You can use your miles to book tickets with airlines that are included in Star Alliance or SkyTeam. This card is meant for those who like to buy flight tickets either from American Airlines or the partners that are included in the OneWorld Alliance. Consequently, the card won’t be of much use in your case if you like to have more options here.

If you want to get the card that’ll offer you more flexibility, have a look at the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

I’ve been using the card for more than 20 years. However, I’ve recently made the decision to start using a different credit card. My AAdvantage account is till active because I’m waiting for the time when the recurring fees will be transitioned. After it, I’ll close the account. The card used to be just great, but there are lots of other new options at the market that have more appealing offers. At present, the only benefit I can enjoy with the card is the fact that there is no fee to pay for it each year. The miles I earn are useless because there are almost no things I can spend them on. I managed to book some trips with my miles several times. I can hardly say that that was beneficial since I had to pay extra fees each time and the flights were inconvenient from the point of view of the departure/arrival time. I often have to go abroad and the card is very inconvenient for me because there is a fee to pay even for one small bag you have with you. I think Capital One will be more beneficial for me.

I’ve been using the card for lots of years. That was a big surprise for me to realize that the emitting bank is rather incompetent. I travel abroad several times a year and I needed the card to make some purchases when travelling. Each time I face one and the same problem – my purchases are put on hold irrespective of the fact that I notified them about my plans to take the card abroad with me beforehand. As a result, the card was cancelled due to the fraudulent activity (as they explained). I can’t believe this. Over the years, I’ve charged more than 1 million dollars and I’ve never failed to pay on time. However, for some unknown reasons I had to pay fees for late payment almost each month. I don’t even know why I waited for so long to close before actually closing the account and getting a different card. At present, I’m searching for the card that will meet my needs and won’t charge me fees or block my purchases for no reasons. Avoid the card! The mess that goes with it is definitely not worth the rewards promised.

Once I got the card, I used it to buy tickets at the official American Airlines website. That purchase allowed me to easily get the reward promised for new cardholders. I was very happy that everything went fine and just the way I planned. However, sometime later I got very sad. I received a letter from the bank in which it was stated that new cardholders can now get 60,000 miles (instead of the 50,000 miles I got). The condition for receiving the reward stayed the same in terms of the money one needs to spend with the card while the time period for doing it was prolonged up to 12 months. They also introduced an interest free period of 14 months. I decided to call the customer support service to ask whether it was possible to increase my reward as well (since I got the card not that long ago). I also said that the interest free period they now have for the card is very attractive and stated that I’d like to have this “feature”. The manager told me that it’s impossible to upgrade the features of the card since I already have it. She added that I also couldn’t expect the increase of my reward.

All this leaves me very disappointed with the service provided by the bank. I believe they simply don’t want to even try solving problems a client has as well as trying to compromise at least.

I want to say that a cardholder can only have his/her bag checked for free with this card if the flight is domestic. I often travel abroad and I have to pay fees for my bags everytime. Besides, if you have any connecting flights, you maybe charged extra fee for your bags all the way to your final destination.
